10 Akron St Graduate Housing, Harvard University

The landscape for Harvard’s 10 Akron Street graduate housing was designed with the neighboring community in mind; the courtyard and streetscape are intended to feel open to the city while still providing residents with opportunities for privacy and security. The design features two distinctive tree circles (one of arborvitae and one of catalpa) set in a lawn framed with basalt benches and pathways. A raised hazel bed with a seating nook offers both privacy and a unique vantage-point for viewing the Charles River and larger landscape beyond.

Inge Daniels managed this project as Senior Designer at Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates.
